Nano Croissants.

The next time you wake up and think to yourself, “Today I want to eat the tiniest croissant I can find for breakfast,” I know exactly where you should go: Manna Epicure in Kloof Street. They serve the smallest croissant in Cape Town. It’s dainty. It’s cute. It’s about the size of your thumb. Okay, I can’t lie, it’s a pretty delicious croissant, very buttery and flaky, and they do serve two per portion. But it still had me in stitches. Maybe the usual stiff-upper-lip crowd like things nano-sized? Or maybe there’s a growing population of dwarves in the area? Who knows.

Are you kidding? Those things are HUGE!

oh how I miss small portions!! Been in the US for the last 5 months and people would actually laugh at you here if you served something of that size..

The flip side is: next time you want to face off against a croissant that competes with a rugby ball for size (and – dare I say – for texture and appeal) – hit Olympia Deli in Kalk Bay (or the too-many coffee shops supplied by Olympia). Is it just me or is there something off-putting about a mammoth croissant? Didn’t Miss Piggy famously declare “I never eat anything bigger than my own head.”? Nano vs supersized… there has to be a happy medium out there…

  4. Pretty much in line with the hobbit-size wine servings they also do these days. Surprisingly enough not at the same minute prices.

My husband and I went to Mana for breakfast the other day and asked for two portions of croissants. The waitress asked us if we wouldn’t prefer to share the croissants because they serve two tiny croissants for R45. I am sorry but R45 for two aeroplane sized croissants with marmalade and butter?! While I can’t fault the flavour, I felt the price to be a little steep!
